Invitation to the Jena "Day of Child Day Care"

Expectant parents and young families are cordially invited to get a comprehensive picture of this special form of care for children up to their third birthday on "Child Day Care Day" on 09.05.2026. This year, the childminders invite you to the consultation room in the administration building at Lutherplatz 3 and to the outdoor area at Am Anger 13. With this event, Jena's childminders are taking part in the Germany-wide campaign week "Gut betreut in Kindertagespflege" (Well cared for in childcare) in order to raise awareness of this flexible and high-quality form of care close to families, to strengthen its importance and thus to underline the central role of childcare in early childhood education, care and upbringing. In the past, childminders have organized similar information days at various locations in Jena.

On 09.05.2026, the self-employed women will present their work in general and be available for personal discussions. In addition to the information stands, there will be a craft and reading corner as well as music and puppet shows for the children. Outside, they can obtain a bobby car driver's license, make the sidewalk colorful and let soap bubbles fly. The ASB Family Center, the Thuringian Parent-Child Center of the Anne Frank Daycare Center, a children's osteopath, a children's yoga teacher and a babywearing consultant will enrich the day by presenting the variety of information, courses and advice available in Jena to young and future parents. The specialist advisors for child day care and the Kita-Portal will provide information on finding and arranging childcare places via the online Kita-Portal and give practical guidance on site.

"Individual and family-based childcare in daycare centers is an important and sought-after service for children and families in our city, just like our kindergartens. I am very pleased that we can offer such a broad and high-quality range of childcare services in Jena. I recommend all young families and parents-to-be to come and see this form of childcare for themselves on Child Day Care Day," said Johannes Schleußner, Head of Education.

There are currently 13 childminders working in Jena. Parents looking for childcare for their child can find a good alternative to a place in a kindergarten here. A maximum of five children up to their third birthday are cared for in each day care center. The boys and girls have a permanent caregiver and receive professional educational support in accordance with the Thuringian education plan. If the childminders are ill or on vacation, they stand in for each other. Day care is no more expensive for parents than a place in a kindergarten.
