Jena 2035+ cycling plan: Bicycle pictograms on the Magedelstieg
Kommunalservice Jena today applied trial markings for pictogram chains on the Magdelstieg at Fichteplatz. The markings show a bicycle symbol in combination with an arrow pointing straight ahead. They are intended to make it clear that cyclists are allowed to ride on the road here. This is also intended to relieve the pressure on shared sidewalks from cycle traffic.
"There is often too little space in Jena to provide separate traffic facilities for all modes of transport. The pictogram chains are intended to make the interaction between cyclists and motor vehicles on the road more relaxed," explains Christian Gerlitz, Mayor and Head of the Department for Urban Development and the Environment.
In the coming weeks, it is planned to apply these markings to other selected streets in Jena, for example along Westbahnhofstraße and Magdelstieg uphill and on Dornburger Straße between Spittelplatz and Nollendorfer Platz.
The city is thus implementing the first measures from the "Jena 2035+ cycling plan" adopted by the city council in March.
