Jena construction site report for the 45th calendar week (04. - 10.11.2024)

New closures / obstructions

Max-Wien-Platz

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Max-Wien-Platz / Lessingstraße / Kritzegraben intersection
• Duration: 04.11. - 20.12.2024
• Reason: Renovation of combined sewer
• Details: Around 45 meters of sewer are to be renewed, enlarged and partly relocated to a new route. To clear the construction site, 30 meters of gas pipe and 10 meters of drinking water pipe will also be relocated.
• Addition: From the direction of Nordfriedhof, Philosophenweg can be accessed as far as the junction with Berghoffsweg. Lessingstraße and Kritzegraben cannot be accessed. Coming from Straße des 17. Juni, you can drive in the direction of Kritzegraben and turn off there. Other destinations - e.g. Lessingstraße or Philosophenweg - are not possible due to the above-mentioned closure.

Passageway/underpass An der Brauerei

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Access route to Paradies
• Duration: 04.11. - 20.12.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering works (drinking water pipe)
• Details: Pedestrian traffic will be guided parallel to the streetcar route in the direction of the underpass in front of the Neutor by means of detour signs. Cycle traffic will also receive detour signs and will also be routed to the Vor dem Neutor underpass. The detour routes and planning boards indicating the closure are shown visually.

Existing road closures

Carl-Zeiß-Platz

• Type: Complete closure
• Duration: until 29.08.2025
• Reason: Renovation + new construction of the German Optical Museum
• Details: The lane in front of the buildings Carl-Zeiß-Platz 12-14 is required for construction site equipment.

Carl-Zeiss-Promenade

• Type: Half-sided closure
• Location: At Lichtenhainer Straße
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Connection of the district heating pipeline and various media
• Details: Traffic will be guided alternately by traffic lights. In addition, Lichtenhainer Oberweg and Lichtenhainer Straße will be closed to through traffic.

Dammstrasse

• Type: Complete closure
• Duration: until 31.12.2024
• Reason: Laying of pipes and renewal of the road surface
• Details: The construction work is divided into two construction phases. Pedestrians can pass the construction site safely. A detour for private traffic will be signposted on site.

2nd construction phase: Schenkstraße to Charlottenstraße

2x Dornburger Straße

• Type: Half-sided closure + sidewalk closure
• Location: between Nordschule and An der Eule
• Duration: until 08.11.2024
• Reason: Reconstruction of the streetcar catenary system
• Details: Dornburger Straße must be fully closed at certain points for the installation of the masts.

What will be done?

• From September 23: In preparation for construction, the company TS Bau is installing so-called search slots to identify the location of cables or other obstacles. This helps to avoid damage during the subsequent foundation work. The work is carried out in the sidewalk area. Depending on the specific conditions in the construction area, short-term obstructions for pedestrians and/or car traffic are to be expected.
• The pipe foundations for the new overhead line masts will be laidfrom the beginning of October. A pile driver will also be used, which may lead to increased noise. This construction phase will take around two weeks.
• The catenary masts will be installedfrom October 28. This work will be carried out at night at around ten locations. This will also require selective closures of Dornburger Strasse and Naumburger Strasse, as the masts will have to be lifted over the overhead line from the road. This work can only be carried out during times when there is little traffic, as the overhead line has to be disconnected each time for safety reasons.
• The cross spans and cantilevers will be pre-assembled frommid-November until the end of March 2025.
• Finally, the contact wire will be replaced duringthe 2025 Easter vacations .

• Location: House number 6
• Start: 19.06.2024
• Reason: Construction of a new house
• Details: From this date, the sidewalk along the property and the adjacent parking lane will be required and closed for the construction site equipment. It is expected that the roadway out of town will also be required in September until the shell of the building is completed. Out-of-town traffic will be diverted via Spitzweidenweg and Nollendorfer Straße.

Ernst-Abbe-Platz

• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Extensive construction work in the track area
• Details: Crossing facilities for pedestrians will be set up.

Forstweg

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: below the railroad bridge
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Work on the pressure reduction shaft for the drinking water supply
• Details: Traffic is permitted up to the construction site. The construction site can be passed safely on foot.

Friedrich-Engels-Straße

• Type: Complete road closure
• Location: Junction with Wöllnitzer Straße to junction with Kernbergstraße
• Duration: until 27.06.2025 (overall measure)
• Reason: Media relocation
• 1st construction phase: 01.08 - 23.12.2024
  Between the junction of Wöllnitzer Straße and the junction of Am Kochersgraben
• Details: The detour is via Jenertal - Kernbergstraße. A detour will be signposted. The construction site can be passed on foot. The directly affected residents will receive updated information on the accessibility of their properties and contact details of the relevant contact persons before the start of construction.

  Bus route 16 Mühltal - city center - Ziegenhainer Tal is also affected by the closure. Jena public transport will be setting up a shuttle service here from August 1.

Geraer Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Geraer Straße junction up to before the railroad bridge
• Duration: until 30.11.2024
• Reason: Major roadworks
• Details: A detour will be signposted on site.

Isserstedter Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: from house number 21 to the junction with Zum Ziskauer Tal
• Start: 02.09.2024
• Reason: Fundamental road expansion
• Details: The detour will be signposted on site. The work in the entire district of Lützeroda will continue until the end of 2025.

Karl-Liebknecht-Straße

• Type: Half-sided closure
• Location: House number 49 - 87
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Maintenance work in the road/track area
• Details: Traffic obstructions are to be expected.

Kernberg district

• Type: Traffic restrictions
• Duration: until 30.12.2024
• Reason: Fiber optic expansion

Church square

• Type: Traffic restrictions
• Location: City church surroundings
• Duration: until 30.12.2024
• Reason: extensive construction work
• Details: The construction site can be passed on foot, access to the town church is guaranteed during the entire construction period. Saalstraße will be fully closed to transit/delivery traffic.

Lessingstraße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz
• Duration: until 31.01.2025
• Reason: Civil engineering works and construction site transportation
• Details: The construction site can be bypassed via Helmholtzweg.

Lichtenhainer Oberweg

• Type: Various restrictions
• Location: Tatzendpromenade junction to access to the P10 Zeiss parking lot
• Duration: until 31.12.2024
• Reason: Laying of district heating pipeline
• Details: From July, the Lichtenhainer Oberweg will have to be fully closed in sections. The construction site is gradually working its way from the upper part of Lichtenhainer Oberweg towards Tatzendpromenade. Detour will be signposted via Friedrich-Körnerstrasse, Döbereinerstrasse and Philipp-Müller-Strasse. Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck asks for your understanding for the restrictions.

Eastern Löbdergraben

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: between Steinweg and Lutherplatz
• Duration: until 23.12.2024
• Reason: Road construction work and media relocation
• Details: Traffic will be diverted via the following route Am Eisenbahndamm - Am Anger - Lutherplatz. The construction site can be crossed on foot via the footpath on the western side of Löbdergraben.
• Addition: A new traffic route has been set up for road users who want to drive from the eastern Löbdergraben towards the Fürstengraben junction. It is possible to follow the signs and drive through the bus stop area in the direction of the Fürstengraben junction. When entering the track area from Löbdergraben, the streetcar must be given priority. Please drive carefully and considerately in this area.

• From 21.10. to 08.11.2024, the southern carriageway in the Lutherplatz area will be resurfaced. The lane in the direction of Am Anger will be diverted via the opposite lane and the newly constructed crossing. Traffic jams are also to be expected here.

Löbdergraben

• Type: Lane narrowing
• Start: until 08.11.2024
• Reason: To secure the construction work on the outdoor facilities of the Inselplatz campus
• Details: The eastbound lanes on Lutherplatz (Am Anger) will be narrowed to one lane over a distance of approx. 50.00 m from Löbdergraben. In Fürstengraben, the traffic flows will be separated into right-turning and straight-ahead vehicles.

Löbichauer Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Lower Löbichauer Straße (Karl-Liebknecht-Straße to Eschenplatz)
• Duration: until 13.12.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering works
• Details: Pedestrians will be safely rerouted.
• Addition: From 12.08. - 13.12.2024 Löbichauer Straße will be fully closed until Eugen-Diederich-Straße. The extension of the construction site is necessary due to the reconstruction of sewage, drinking water and gas pipes and the construction of a new road. The detour will be via Im Ritzetal.

2x Mühlenstraße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: House number 48 - 100
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Work on the electrical line
• Details: The detour is via Lichtenhainer Oberweg. The area above can also be accessed via Lützowstraße - Wildenbruchstraße.

• Type: Half-sided closure by setting up a one-way street
• Location: At house number 21
• Duration: until 15.12.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering works
• Details: The one-way street will only be set up in the immediate construction area and can be driven on from Kahlaische Straße in the direction of Hermann-Löns-Straße. The construction site can be passed safely on foot.

Münchenrodaer Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: from the Münchenrodaer Grund junction
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering work (fiber optic expansion)
• Details: Traffic in the direction of Münchenroda can drive via the road "Münchenrodaer Grund" and is guided alternately via the road "Am Mühlberg" above by means of a mobile traffic light. Traffic obstructions are to be expected.

Nollendorfer Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: between Thomas-Mann-Straße and Dornburger Straße
• Duration: until 30.12.2024
• Reason: fundamental road renovation

Remderoda

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Road in the direction of Remderoda
• Duration: until 30.11.2024
• Reason: Laying of drinking water pipe
• Details: A detour via Münchenroda will be signposted.

Richard-Zimmermann-Straße

• Type: Half-sided closure
• Location: in the direction of Drackendorfer Weg
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering work (laying of medium-voltage cable)
• Details: The traffic routing is secured by means of a one-way street regulation. The construction site can be passed safely on foot.

Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: At house numbers 37 - 39
• Duration: until 08.11.2024
• Reason: Civil engineering works (reconstruction of wastewater sewer)
• Details: Motorized individual traffic and bicycle traffic can bypass the full closure via Liselotte-Herrmann-Straße.
• Addition: In the area (Hnr. 8 - 30) a full closure will also be realized in the course of the reconstruction of the sewer and the fundamental renewal of the road. This construction work is scheduled to last until 25.04.2025.

Rudolstädter Straße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: Gleisdreieck Winzerla
• Duration: until 11.11.2024
• Reason: Renewal of two points
• Details: Individual traffic will be widely diverted via Lobedaer Straße and Göschwitzer Straße

🚍 Restrictions on local/regional traffic from September 30, 03:00 to November 11, 2024, 03:00:

Streetcar line 3 only runs between Lobeda-Ost and Burgaupark. The Freizeitbad and Winzerla stops will not be served.
served. Passengers between Winzerla and Burgaupark should use bus line 10 from/to Enver-Simsek-Platz.

Bus routes 48, 480, 481, 482, 484 and 492 cannot serve the Burgaupark West and Freizeitbad stops.
Passengers who want to get on and off at the bus stops Winzerla, Winzergasse and Jena21 in the direction of Kahla,
please use bus lines 12 and 18 between Winzerla and Göschwitz. At the Göschwitz bus stop, you can change to the
bus route 48 and the JES regional bus routes.

At Burgaupark, there will be an alternative stop in the direction of Kahla in Keßlerstraße Süd; near Reifsteinweg and the petrol station.
On bus route 490, there will be delays and changes to the timetable for the affected journeys.

Schroeterstraße

• Type: Complete closure
• Location: from Strigelstraße
• Duration: until 30.12.2024
• Reason: Fundamental road expansion to Forstweg
• Details: The connection to Katharinenstraße is not possible during the construction period

Wiesenstraße traffic circle

• Duration: 04.09.2024 - 29.11.2025
• Reason: Work on the Wiesenstraße traffic circle construction project.
• Details: The entire traffic junction will be completely redesigned so that all types of traffic can be taken into account and traffic can flow safely.
• 3rd construction phase - expansion of the junction
• Addition: From 30.09.2024, traffic will only be able to travel via Brückenstraße in the direction of Kunitz or the industrial estate. It will not be possible to drive from Wiesenstraße to Kunitz or the adjacent industrial estate. A wide detour will be signposted via Am Anger - Dornburger Straße - Camburger Straße. Pedestrians can safely walk around the roadworks using an emergency footpath to get to Kunitz or towards Naumburger Straße.

Ziegenhain

• Type: Traffic restrictions
• Location: from the bus turning point to the junction with Ziegenhainer Straße
• Duration: until 20.12.2024
• Reason: Fiber optic expansion

Announcements

Main access road Oberaue

• Type: Complete closure of level crossing Stadion
• Duration: 11 - 16.11.2024
• Reason: Work on the track systems (repair of rails and sleepers incl. track tamping)
• Details: For the construction work, the Stadion level crossing will be completely closed to streetcar and private traffic from Monday, November 11, 3:00 a.m. to Saturday, November 16, 3:00 a.m.
• Traffic in the direction of Oberaue can use the southern access road. It is only possible to turn right from Stadtrodaer Straße in the direction out of town. If you have to leave Oberaue again, you can only turn right onto Stadtrodaer Straße. Road users heading into the city from the highway will be diverted via: Am Stadion - Wöllnitzer- Straße - Seidelstraße and Stadtrodaer Straße.

• Addition: The speed will be limited to 30 km/h due to the new traffic situation at the southern access road in order to prevent rear-end collisions and turning accidents. During the above-mentioned period, the speed will be permanently monitored using radar technology. This is also indicated by signage.

🚍 Restrictions on local public transport

• Streetcar lines 1, 4 and 5: These lines run between the Burgaupark and Paradiesbahnhof West stops via Kahlaische Straße.
• Earlier departures: The departure times of lines 1 and 4 from Zwätzen have been brought forward by up to 10 minutes and line 5 from Lobeda-Ost by up to 4 minutes. Passengers are asked to note the earlier departure times.
• Rail replacement service (SEV): An SEV will be set up as line E from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every 15 minutes between the Burgaupark and Paradiesbahnhof West stops. Passengers can also use bus line 48 between the bus station and Burgaupark.
• Stops not served: The Paradiesbahnhof stop will not be served by the streetcar lines during the construction work; please use the Paradiesbahnhof West stop instead. The Sparkassen-Arena stop will not be served by the SEV; the Burgaupark or Freizeitbad stops can be used instead.
