New Closures / Traffic Disruptions

Maua Industrial Park 

  • Type: Alternating full closures of the ramps
  • Duration: October 5–23, 2026
  • Reason: Repair work
  • Details: Traffic will be rerouted.

Göschwitzer Street

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Behind the property entrance to the buildings at Göschwitzer Straße 7, 7a, and 7b, along a private road to the existing gas pressure regulation station
  • Duration: October 7 through November 30, 2026
  • Reason: Gas pipeline expansion
  • Details: Access to the aforementioned residential buildings will be maintained via a temporary construction road. For more information, please visit www.stadtwerke-jena-netze.de/baustellen

Fürstengraben

  • Type: One-way traffic on one side of the street
  • Location:between the intersection of Bibliotheksplatz and Johannisplatz
  • Duration: September 30 through October 6, 2026
  • Reason: Emergency repairs
  • Details: Traffic heading out of town can continue to use Fürstengraben. Traffic heading into town will be rerouted via signage over a wide area. Locals can bypass the closure via Johannisplatz and Leutragraben.
  • The closure will be lifted over the weekend. Starting Monday, the current single-lane traffic configuration will resume.

Oßmaritzer Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Between the intersection with Helene-Weigel-Straße and the intersection with Hanns-Eisler-Straße 
  • Duration: October 5–16, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work (water main)
  • Details: Traffic will be rerouted via Bertolt-Brecht-Straße.

Announcements/Notices

Eisenberger Street

  • Type: One-way closure
  • Location: Near the gas station in Wogau (B7)
  • Duration: October 22–23, 2026
  • Reason: Resurfacing of the roadway
  • Details: A traffic light is controlling traffic.

Kahlaische Straße / Mühlenstraße

  • Type: Various road closures
  • Duration: October 12 through November 6, 2026
  • Reason: Track renovation work
  • Details: Mühlenstraße will be completely closed. One side of Kahlaische Straße will be closed. A one-way street will be established toward the city center. Outbound traffic will be rerouted via Ernst-Haeckel-Straße – Westbahnhofstraße – Magdelstieg – Tatzendpromenade – Hermann-Löns-Straße, and Winzerlaer Straße.

Saalstraße

  • Type: Temporary full closure
  • Location: Near house numbers 9–10
  • Duration: October 12 through November 6, 2026
  • Reason: Work on the district heating pipeline
  • Details: As part of the construction process, there will be a temporary full closure lasting 3 to 4 days. Traffic will be rerouted via Unterlauengasse.

  • Tree maintenance work has been completed.

B88 (A4 highway bridge)

  • A structural inspection has been completed.

Burgauer Weg

  • Construction of a high-pressure gas pipeline has been completed.

Current road closures

August-Bebel-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: from house number 27a to Botzstraße
  • Duration: through October 30, 2026
  • Reason: major roadwork
  • Details: Residents of Wilhelm-Külz-Straße can still access August-Bebel-Straße. A detour is signposted. The “Norma” supermarket is accessible only on foot.

Bernhard-Schultze-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through November 27, 2026
  • Reason: major road reconstruction including utility and sewer work
  • Details: The work will be carried out in two construction phases. A detour will be signposted.
    • Phase 1: Am Steinborn from Löbichauer Street to Bernhard-Schultze Street
    • Phase 2: Am Steinborn to Klopfleischstraße

Camburger Straße (sidewalk)

  • Type: Complete closure of the western sidewalk
  • Location: From the intersection with Leipziger Straße to across from the garage complex
  • Duration: through October 14, 2026 
  • Reason: Civil engineering work
  • Details: Pedestrianand bicycletrafficwill bererouted via Fritz-Kalisch-Straße.

Carl-Zeiss-Platz

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: House numbers 12 through 14
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation and new construction of the German Optical Museum

Dornburger Street

  • Type: Various closures
  • Location: House number 6
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Reason: New construction
  • Details: A one-way traffic system is in effect heading into town. The cordoned-off area is being used for construction site setup and loading/unloading. To head out of town, the detour runs via Spitzweidenweg and Nollendorfer Street.

Friedrich-Wolf-Straße / Dornburger Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 16, 2026 
  • Reason: Renovation of the railroad crossing
  • Details: The railroad crossing can be crossed on foot. The closure can be bypassed via Leipziger Straße and Scharnhorststraße.

Forstweg (bridge)

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between house numbers 12 and 24
  • Duration: through December 20, 2026
  • Reason: Replacement of the bridge
  • Details: The road is accessible from both directions only up to the bridge. Depending on the construction work, additional parking and stopping restrictions may apply. 
    • The pedestrian bridge may be crossed from Friday (2:30 p.m.) through Monday (7:00 a.m.).On weekdays, please use the detour via Kochstraße, Magdelstieg, and Hornstraße. 
      All road users are again urged to follow the existing traffic routing at all times. There is a significant risk of serious injury in the area of the construction site due to the excavation pit.

Fritz-Reuter-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 21, 2026
  • Reason: Reconstruction of drinking water, stormwater, and electrical lines
  • Details: The work will be carried out in two construction phases. A detour will be signposted.
    • Phase 1: From Kronfeldstraße to Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg
    • Phase 2: From Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg to Tatzendpromenade

Knebelstraße

  • Type: Half-lane closure in the direction of Fischergasse
  • Location: Near Volksbad
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Reason: Construction work at the Gleisdreieck
  • Details: Kahlaische Straße remains accessible. Traffic is being rerouted via Grietgasse toward Fischergasse and Löbdergraben. From Grietgasse, drivers can then only turn onto Kahlaische Straße.

Kritzegraben

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Intersection of Kritzegraben, Thomas-Mann-Straße, and Sankt-Jakob-Straße
  • Duration: through October 9, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work
  • Details: Drivers should take a wide detour around the closure.

Lessingstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work and construction site traffic
  • Details: The construction site can be bypassed via Helmholtzweg.

Lützowstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From house number 30 to Wildenbruchstraße 25
  • Duration: through October 9, 2026
  • Reason: major roadwork

Naumburger Street

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From the outskirts of Jena to the intersection with Carl-Orff-Straße Süd
  • Duration: Phase 1 through November 30, 2026
  • Reason: Comprehensive infrastructure project (renovation of the road, sidewalks, and bike paths; utility lines; tram line extension)
  • Details: The detour is extensive in both directions, starting at Camburg/Rodameuschel via the L1070 to Trotz, and from Trotz on the B7 via Bürgel to Jena. The junction with Carl-Orff-Straße South remains open to traffic at all times.

OBI Tunnel

  • Type: Complete closure of the pedestrian/bicycle path
  • Location: Camburger Straße to the OBI Tunnel
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Reason: Expansion of the pedestrian/bike path
  • Details: The detour runs through the Saalbahnhof Tunnel.
    • Another complete closure of the tunnel: October 12 through October 30, 2026—no crossing allowed!

Otto-Schott-Straße

  •     Type: Full closure
  •     Location: From Kronfeldstraße toward Schleidenstraße
  •     Duration: through November 20, 2026
  •     Reason: District heating expansion
  •     Details: The detour runs via Magdelstieg.
  • Construction Phase 2: Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg to Tatzendpromenade

Paradiesbrücke

  • Type: Closures of tracks and sidewalks/bike paths
  • Duration: until approx. March 31, 2027
  • Reason: Renovation of the tram line
  • Details: Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be rerouted via the adjacent sidewalk on Stadtrodaer Straße. The Paradiesbahnhof station is accessible only via the sidewalk on Knebelstraße.
    The project will be carried out in three construction phases. 
  • Phase 1 (June 29 through December 15, 2026): Closure of the track section from Paradiesbrücke up to and including the Paradiesbahnhof stop. Changes to the route maps for Lines 1, 4, and 5.
  • Phase 2 (Spring 2027): Closure of the track section between the Paradiesbahnhof stop and the Holzmarkt junction. This construction phase will result in an interruption of tram service and the division of the network into a northern and a southern section.
  • 3. Construction phase (spring 2027): Renovation of the small railroad crossing at the entrance to Paradiesbahnhof—with no restrictions on local transit.

Saalebrücke in Oberaue

  • Type: Temporary full closure
  • Duration: September 30, 2027
  • Location: Near USV
  • Details: A signposted detour for pedestrians and cyclists runs over the Lichtenhainer Bridge. 
    • The bridge will be completely closed from September 28 to October 9, 2026. Additional closures will occur depending on the work to be carried out.

Sankt-Jakob-Straße

  • Type: Full closure of the southbound lane
  • Location: between Kritzegraben and Spittelplatz
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Major renovation of the area
  • Details: The pedestrian and bike path is being rerouted via Philosophenweg toward Sankt-Jakob-Straße. Kritzegraben, Am Planetarium, and Sophienstraße remain fully open to traffic.

Stauffenbergstraße

  • Type: Temporary full closures
  • Location: Between house numbers 1 and 13 and the adjacent Fritz-Ritter-Straße
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Reason: Underground electrical work
  • Details:Traffic will be rerouted via the adjacent road network.

Theobald-Renner-Straße

  • Type: Partial closure and full closure
  • Duration: through October 23, 2026
  • Reason: Road resurfacing
  • Details: Traffic congestion is expected.
    • Properties and parking spaces remain accessible.
    • The full closure near house number 2 can be bypassed via the loop on Theobold-Renner-Straße.
  • Access to the swimming pool and the parking lot is guaranteed.

Thomas-Mann-Straße

  • Type: Change in traffic routing
  • Location: between Nollendorfer Straße and Hufelandweg
  • Duration: through October 30, 2026 
  • Reason: Complete road reconstruction
  • Details: The removal of the natural stone pavers and the installation of a new bituminous surface course are intended to improve drivability. The construction project is divided into two phases. 
    • Phase 1: House numbers 34 to 23a
    • Phase 2: House numbers 23a to 3 
    • The one-way street regulation will be suspended so that properties not located within the construction zone can be accessed. 

Tümplingstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From house number 1 to the intersection with Tautenburger Straße
  • Start: September 8, 2026
  • Reason: Underground construction work (gas and electrical)
  • Details: The detour runs via Charlottenstraße and Schlippenstraße.

Wöllnitz Pedestrian Bridge

  • Type: Restrictions and closures
  • Location: near Stadtrodaer Straße
  • Duration: through October31, 2026
  • Reason: Bridge renovation
  • Details: The project will be carried out in 5 construction phases. During the 5th phase, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.
    • Phase 5 (June 27 through October 31, 2026): The lanes heading into town will be closed; traffic will be diverted to the opposite direction.
