Jena Energy and Heating Competence Center Opens: A New Hub for Consulting, Knowledge, and Exchange

The Jena Climate Protection Agency and Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck Launch a Joint Pilot Project for Information, Counseling, Training, and Networking

Jena, September 29, 2026 – How will I heat my home in the future? What kind of energy-efficient renovation makes sense? What funding options are available? And who can help with implementation? Answers to these and many other questions will be centralized in one place going forward: On September 29, the Jena Climate Protection Agency and Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck jointly opened the Jena Energy and Heating Competence Center (EWK).

The EWK is located in Trafo-Box 3 on the grounds of Imaginata Jena and is initially set up as a joint pilot project running through the end of 2027. The space will be used for consulting and information services, events, training sessions, and networking meetings related to energy, heating, and building retrofits. The services are aimed at citizens as well as businesses, tradespeople, professional planners, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.

Guidance and Information in One Place

For many people, the energy and heating transition raises specific questions. At the same time, technical possibilities, funding requirements, and legal frameworks are changing. This is where the EWK comes in: interested individuals can get guidance, learn more, and ask their specific questions during consultations and events.

The Competence Center provides informational materials and various exhibits on heating and building technology. These include, for example, heat pumps, pellet heating systems, and various insulation materials. They complement the information and advisory services and offer the opportunity to get a close-up look at different technologies.

At the same time, the EWK isdesignedto serve as a venue for events, training, and networking. In addition to informational evenings and advisory services for residents, the center will also host professional events, continuing education programs, and networking meetings in the future. This creates a shared space where knowledge can be shared and stakeholders from energy consulting, the trades, planning, business, and education can be brought together.

From the Climate Action Plan to Concrete Initiatives

The EWK brings together and addresses various tasks and measures outlined in the City of Jena’s Climate Action Plan. These include, among other things, energy and grant counseling, information and educational programs, professional development, and networking among different stakeholders.

“The Climate Action Plan sets the strategic framework for Jena’s path to climate neutrality. It is crucial that this leads to concrete services for the people. The Energy and Heating Competence Center brings together advice, knowledge, training, and networking in one place, thereby creating a practical solution for the energy and heating transition in Jena,” says Kathleen Lützkendorf, Director of Social Affairs, Health, Immigration, and Climate for the City of Jena.

First Events This Fall

The opening also marks the start of the event program. The series kicks off on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:00 p.m. with the informational evening “Heating System Replacement—Which One Is Right for My Home?” Building owners will receive an overview of current heating technologies, applicable regulations, and funding programs.

This will be followed on Wednesday, November 25, at 7:00 p.m., by the event “Energy-Efficient Renovation.” The focus will be on the energy efficiency of buildings, possible renovation measures for roofs, facades, windows, and basements, as well as funding opportunities and guidance on doing the work yourself or hiring professionals.

Additional informational events, counseling services, training sessions, and networking opportunities are planned. The program will be continuously refined during the pilot phase.
