Jena fire department draws positive balance
The Jena fire department can look back on a generally quiet New Year's Eve. There were no major incidents or notable incidents. As is usual at the turn of the year, the emergency services mainly responded to smaller fires and emergency services.
Mayor and Head of Security Benjamin Koppe explains: "Overall, New Year's Eve in Jena passed off quietly. There were no major incidents or particular focal points. This is also due to the fact that the vast majority of citizens celebrated responsibly and adhered to the applicable rules. Individual violations did not change the overall manageable number of incidents. My special thanks go to the fire, rescue and police services who were on duty on New Year's Eve."
On New Year's Eve, there were typical incidents that regularly occur at the turn of the year. These included burning garbage containers, firework remnants and smaller fires. These incidents were spread across the entire city area and were quickly dealt with by the forces deployed.
Nick Ludwig, head of the Jena fire department, also drew a positive balance: "Overall, the operational situation was manageable and well under control. The emergency services were ready for action at all times. The operations were within the scope of what can usually be expected on New Year's Eve."
Additional organizational measures were implemented as part of a special situation to support the emergency services. These included the maximum staffing of the regional control center, the addition of an extra ambulance and an emergency doctor vehicle to the rescue service. In addition, equipment depots of individual volunteer fire departments were staffed.
In the run-up to the New Year, information was provided on the applicable regulations for handling fireworks. Private individuals are only permitted to set off category F2 fireworks on December 31 and January 1. Violations of these legal requirements constitute administrative offenses and can be punished with fines.
The City of Jena wishes all citizens a healthy, happy and successful New Year.
