JENABONUS is being expanded: Victims of violent crimes will have access to benefits
At its meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the Jena City Council approved the revised version of the JENABONUS guidelines. The amendment allows another group of people who are particularly vulnerable to benefit from the program: victims of violent crimes who were transferred to the benefits system under the Social Code (SGB XIV) following the expiration of the Victims’ Compensation Act on December 31, 2023.
For many years, the city of Jena has been supporting low-income households through the JENABONUS program by offering discounted admission and subsidies for local public transportation. Until now, beneficiaries under Book XIV of the Social Code were not eligible for these benefits. To ensure this vulnerable group is not excluded, the JENABONUS guidelines have now been amended.
The expansion of the JENABONUS underscores the City of Jena’s commitment to social justice and inclusion. The new regulation will take effect on October 1, 2026.
