Jena's Lord Mayor and Saale-Holzland district councillor jointly invite you to a spring hike

02.04.2025

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche and the District Administrator of the Saale-Holzland district, Johann Waschnewski, invite you to a spring hike on Saturday, 26.04.2025. The tour begins in Jena (in Maua), then leads into the Saale-Holzland district and back to Göschwitz, where the maypole will be set on this day.

The start is at 10 a.m. in Jena-Maua at the "Golden Ship", where there are several parking spaces available (more in the Maua industrial estate). The route leads in the direction of Leutra and along the former A4 highway route, which was dismantled years ago. The detour to the old highway route was already planned for the 2024 autumn hike around Bucha. The spring hike will now be a continuation or addition to the autumn tour.

We will then return north of the former freeway via the so-called Alpenstieg - with a wide view of the Leutratal valley - via the Jagdberg tunnel and on to Göschwitz. Lunch will be provided on the way. In Göschwitz, hikers can enjoy coffee and cake, delicious grilled food and cool drinks during the festivities, before returning to Maua.

Many thanks in advance to the participating fire department associations and all the helpers who are involved in preparing and carrying out the hike. The district administrator's popular tradition of donating a rustic wooden bench to each hiking region together with the Sparkassenstiftung Jena-Saale-Holzland is also to be continued.

A tradition since 2007

The district administrator hikes in the Saale-Holzland district were launched by former district administrator Andreas Heller in 2007. Since then, one spring and one fall hike have taken place in a region of the district almost every year. To mark the 30th anniversary of the SHK 2024, the first 30 hikes were compiled in an anniversary brochure. Some copies of the brochure "30 years of the Saale-Holzland district - 30 hikes through the region" with lots of pictures, route descriptions and maps as well as helpful hiking tips will also be available for the 2025 spring hike - free of charge for hikers thanks to Sparkasse Jena-Saale-Holzland as the main sponsor of the 2024 anniversary activities.

"Saale-Holzland is our home, our district, of which we can be proud. There are still many beautiful regions here between the Saale and Elster rivers, between heathland and hill country, which are worth exploring together. I am delighted to be able to continue the long-standing hiking tradition, now together with Jena, and in future perhaps also with the neighboring districts of Saale-Orla, Greiz and Burgenland."

says District Administrator Johann Waschnewski.

"We live good urban-rural relations not only in politics, but also in everyday life. I am very pleased that this year we are not only joining the walk, but also organizing it together. Together with District Administrator Waschnewski, I hope to see many hikers on April 26."

added Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche.
