Joint survey by the city of Jena and the TU Kaiserslautern

07.09.2022

The city of Jena was selected as one of seven model regions to conduct surveys among the large group of baby boomers. This is the focus of the research project "Ageing Smart - designing spaces intelligently" at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern; researchers are investigating the everyday lives and needs of baby boomers and the adjacent birth cohorts in their places of residence.

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Annette Spellerberg from the TU Kaiserslautern, a survey is being conducted among 50- to 75-year-olds throughout Jena. The research group is investigating, for example, whether the majority of this age group would like to stay in their neighborhoods. What do the respondents like here, what do they miss? How can accessibility and local amenities be improved? Which services are also desired digitally?

3,000 randomly selected residents in this age group will be sent a questionnaire in the next few days. This can be answered by post or online by the end of the month (30.09.2022). The results will be published in spring 2023.

Background information:
The baby boomers are gradually entering retirement. With the transition into retirement, everyday habits often change, which can also have an impact on where people live. The aim of the research project is to support cities and municipalities in assessing both the current and future needs of their citizens.

This gives the city of Jena the opportunity to uncover indications for future developments and define areas for action. Further information on the project can be found at: www.ageing-smart.de
