Joy in Jena: State of Thuringia supports Jena in the competition for the location of the Future Center

12.07.2022

Jena was able to score points in the Thuringia-wide competition for the Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation. At the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the state government decided to support Jena's application.

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche is delighted with this decision:

"In our presentation a week ago, we made it clear that the city of Jena, together with the Friedrich Schiller University, which is strong in research and intensively networked with Eastern and Central Europe, has the best prospects of bringing the future center in the East German competition to Thuringia. With the central commitment of the state, we have now achieved another important prerequisite for a successful application. We would like to thank the state of Thuringia for this trust and are very aware of the responsibility this gives us and are happy to accept it."

The University of Jena is also delighted. Katja Bär, Head of Communications at the University of Jena and a member of the Jena application team, said:

"We were able to show that, with our scientific expertise and networking, we are already the center of transformation research in Germany and therefore a strong co-competitor in the East Germany-wide competition to host the Future Center. Together with our network partners in Eastern and Central Europe, we will develop a powerful science and research concept for the Future Center."
