Juvenile jurors wanted
The City of Jena is looking for juvenile lay judges for the Jena Local Court and the Gera Regional Court.
Persons who live in Jena and are at least 25 and at most 69 years old on 01.01.2024 can apply for this office. German nationals who have a sufficient command of the German language are eligible. The responsible office of a lay judge also requires a high degree of impartiality, independence and maturity of judgment, as well as mental agility and - due to the intensive court service - good health.

Lay judges in juvenile criminal cases should also be educationally qualified and have particular experience in the education of young people, according to Diana Kölbel from the Legal Department of the City of Jena. The experience in youth education can have been acquired in practical youth work. Such a qualification can also result from voluntary work in youth associations, youth welfare and leisure facilities, in the school and sports sector as well as in the context of private educational and care activities.

On March 10, 2023, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a free information event for interested parties entitled "Verantwortung übernehmen - Schöffe werden!" at the Volkshochschule Jena, Grietgasse 17a, 07743 Jena in cooperation with the Vereinigung der Ehrenamtlichen Richterinnen und Richter Mitteldeutschlands e.V.
