Launch of the European Mobility Week 2024
On September 16, 2024, the European Mobility Week begins under the motto "Using road space together", in which the city of Jena is also participating. On September 22 (Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Löbderstraße at Löbdertor will be transformed into an interactive experience zone on the subject of road safety. The city cordially invites all citizens to get to grips with the topic in a playful way with exciting hands-on activities and information stands. The aim is to raise awareness of considerate and safe behavior in road traffic.
Visitors can look forward to a varied program: the Verkehrswacht offers a traffic quiz, a painting street and an exercise course where young and old can put their knowledge to the test. The German Bicycle Club (ADFC) will provide information on the necessary overtaking distance, while an e-scooter provider will demonstrate how to ride safely and park responsibly. An interactive multimedia column as part of the German Road Safety Council's "Slow down" and #mehrAchtung campaigns invites visitors to actively engage with road safety issues. The Jena police will also be on site with an information stand and a patrol car to share their expertise on safe behavior in road traffic.
Jena's public transport system will also be participating in the European Mobility Week with a special offer: a public bus will be available on site to serve as a mobile traffic school on the day. Here, children have the opportunity to receive important information about road safety directly from the local transport service staff. With child-friendly explanations and practical exercises, the young road users are taught the correct behavior in road traffic in a fun way.The traffic school is an important contribution to the early promotion of safety and responsibility in public spaces and the use of local public transport.
Mayor and Head of Transport Christian Gerlitz is enthusiastic about the various activities and emphasizes: "If we are all attentive and considerate, we will achieve the goal together: safety on every road.Because pedestrians and cyclists don't have a crumple zone - consideration is their most important protection."
