Launch of the "Preserve paradise" campaign

09.08.2022

The search for socio-cultural open spaces, disturbances to peace and order, conflicts arising from the use of existing public spaces and the balancing of very different interests in the area of night culture have been occupying the Paradies21 steering group and the local district councils concerned for some time.

In recent months, initial improvements have been achieved, particularly in Paradiespark, through various measures such as stronger networking between the stakeholders involved, free opening of the toilet in Paradies, deposit collectors at the waste garbage cans in the park, the installation of containers at the Universaale with materials for youth social work and also increased checks and contact with the public order authorities.

The steering group and other initiators, such as the Jena-Zentrum district council, are now also going on the offensive in terms of communication. The "Preserve Paradise" campaign uses colorful posters to highlight three key challenges that arise from users of Paradise Park and other areas in the city: Noise, waste generation and a lack of mutual attentiveness. The posters have been hanging in and around Paradies since Monday.

Head of Public Order Benjamin Koppe explains the idea: "Our aim is to raise awareness of the issue and to balance interests. Greater consideration, mutual respect and reviewing one's own behavior are at the heart of the city's campaign. We will continue to work on improving the challenges presented by the campaign in public places. This can only be done together with all stakeholders and user groups."

For Inga Riedel, head of the polaris youth center, and Kathleen Lützkendorf, mayor of the Jena-Zentrum district, who presented the campaign together with Benjamin Koppe, it is important that both the needs of teenagers and young people and the interests of residents in the districts are given sufficient consideration and that better coexistence is made possible.
