Lichtstadt young talent starts with good career opportunities

31.08.2023

The City of Jena welcomes 37 new trainees. Together with the training managers, Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche welcomed the young men and women at a ceremony in the Volkshaus on Thursday, 31.08.2023.

"The number of our trainees has risen continuously over the past ten years," said Anja Andritzke, Head of Training for the core administration. The spectrum has also become broader and broader - the city of Jena now offers 25 training and study programs. The offer ranges from automotive mechatronics technician, office management clerk, real estate clerk, emergency paramedic and educator to tourism and leisure clerk. There are also dual study courses such as public management and social work. This year, for the first time, a training course in funeral services will also be offered.

"First and foremost, a municipal administration is there for its residents," emphasized Nitzsche. "We accompany people throughout their lives - literally from birth to death." According to the Lord Mayor, the city is dependent on qualified specialists in order to be able to carry out its diverse tasks. The career opportunities for the next generation are currently good.

Great demand for administrative assistants and office management clerks

Andritzke said that there is particularly high demand for apprenticeships in administration and office management. They are by far the largest group of new trainees. These two apprenticeships are located in the core administration - as are the civil servant candidates for the higher non-technical service, the social work course, educators, emergency paramedics, fire officer candidates and - since this year - IT specialists. Two new trainees are starting at Eigenbetrieb Kommunale Immobilien Jena, as well as at JenaKultur. Kommunalservice Jena welcomes seven new trainees as prospective gardeners, automotive mechatronics technicians, professional drivers, office management clerks, funeral specialists and civil engineering specialists.

Mentors and trainers support the start of training

After the welcome, the trainees can look forward to an opening week in which they will not only get to know Jena and the city administration with its departments and tasks. In addition, at least one apprentice from a higher apprenticeship year will be available to them as a mentor to answer any questions they may have about starting their career.

Training manager Andritzke is particularly proud of the fact that more than 100 city employees have now been trained as trainers - 16 alone completed the seminar in the first half of 2023. "It is thanks to our trainers in particular that we have repeatedly made it among 'Germany's best trainers' in the past," says Andritzke. The city of Jena has applied for this title again in 2023 - the result is still open.

20 graduates in nine training programs

As well as welcoming the newcomers, 20 graduates were given a ceremonial farewell this Thursday. 15 of them have successfully completed their training in the core administration - as civil servant candidates in the higher non-technical service, as administrative assistants, office management clerks, educators, emergency paramedics and fire wardens. The municipal enterprise JenaKultur also congratulated a newly qualified media and information services specialist, Kommunalservice Jena congratulated a total of four gardener trainees and KIJ congratulated a graduate of the bachelor's degree course in business administration/digitalization management.

All graduates from the core administration were taken on. "We are delighted that we were able to offer all of them a position in their desired areas," says Andritzke. The men and women are now starting their careers in the Human Resources department, the Youth Welfare department, the City Council office and the Immigration Service team.
