Looking for a green oasis in Jena
Greenery on and around buildings contributes significantly to the beautification of our cityscape. In addition to the aesthetic aspect, greenery on buildings is of great importance for the urban climate and ecology. Rainwater is retained, stored and later released again, creating a balanced microclimate in summer. The leaf mass binds pollutants such as CO2 and provides food and habitat for numerous animals such as birds and insects. Last but not least, the color green has a calming and relaxing effect on us humans - green is a piece of perceived quality of life.
We would like to invite all owners and designers of ecologically and aesthetically particularly successful green façades, roofs, balconies, front gardens, communal courtyards and fallow land to apply for the "Award for Green Oases in Jena". Prizes can be awarded to both long-term and temporary green objects that have an external impact on the urban space.
The prize is worth a total of 2,000 euros and is usually divided among several winners.

Application period is until 01.09.2023.
We require the following information from applicants

By submitting the proposal, you give your consent to the use of the submitted images for publications as part of the "Award for Green Oases in Jena". The publications should take the form of posters, internet articles, press releases and social media posts. If you do not wish this, please enclose a written declaration to this effect with your proposal.
This year's award ceremony is scheduled for the fall.
In view of the occasion, we would like to point out that greenery on properties with an unclear legal position is generally excluded from the award. This applies in particular to properties requiring planning permission for which no permits have been granted and which are not protected as existing buildings, but also to properties that are the subject of other ongoing building regulations proceedings, such as prohibitions of use or demolition orders.
