Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche receives Romanian Ambassador Adriana Stănescu

07.02.2025

Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche met with the Ambassador of Romania to Germany, Adriana Stănescu. The reason for the visit was to prepare the "Days of Romania" project, which aims to raise awareness of Romania in Jena and further intensify cooperation.

The ambassador was a guest of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where the focus was on planning the project. The "Days of Romania" are planned to mark the 145th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Romania this year. The Europe Week at the beginning of May was considered as a possible timeframe. Local associations such as the Lugoj Association and the Jena Children's Language Bridge are also to be involved in the project.

In addition to the plans for the event, Mayor Nitzsche and Ambassador Stănescu talked about other opportunities for cooperation. Topics included professional exchanges, school partnerships, cooperation in the church sector and medical cooperation as part of the city partnership between Jena and the Romanian city of Lugoj. In this context, a first digital meeting between Lord Mayor Nitzsche and the newly elected mayor of Lugoj, Calin Dobra, is planned in the near future.
