Ludwig-Weimar-Gasse completely free again today

18.06.2021

On Friday, 18.06.2021, Kommunalservice Jena will reopen Ludwig-Weimar-Gasse. The important city center connection and the junction area at Löbdergraben were completely upgraded. Completion was actually planned for the turn of the year. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were supply bottlenecks for materials and delays in the construction process. We would like to apologize again to the residents for this.

Thomas Krüger Bauunternehmung acted as the construction company and Infraplan Ingenieure GmbH as the construction supervision office.

The alleyway is part of the redevelopment area "Sub-area I, medieval old town" and the design area of the city of Jena's model urban renewal framework plan. The project was financed with the help of urban development funds from the federal-state urban redevelopment program (upgrading). The funding share amounts to 2/3 of the total eligible costs.

The aim of the project was to redesign and improve the quality of the public street space and the area along Löbdergraben. The following services were provided in connection with the construction project:

  • Fundamental expansion of the street space and upgrading of the small green area on Löbdergraben with benches and planting
  • Replacement of the three old street lights with new LED technology
  • Adaptation of the cellar light wells
  • Renewal and relocation of the AOK wastewater house connection shaft
  • Relocation of the existing meter connection pillars at Löbdergraben
  • Replacement and relocation of the SWJ-P electrical connection box and
  • Telekom services, including the renewal of the manhole at Löbdergraben

Remaining work, such as the permanently elastic grouting of joints in front of the Sparkasse bank and the installation of three additional waste bins, will take place in September 2021.

The special feature of this construction site is the bonded paving construction method with high demands on the quality of the paving work.
The very cramped street space, the extensive amount of pipes and cables, securing deliveries and accessibility to the stores as well as accessibility for all commercial and private residents, such as the underground car park, posed a major challenge. This could only be met by building in sections and at different times in order to limit the impact on all parties involved.

The design was carried out as a mixed traffic area without kerbs while retaining the arrangement as a traffic-calmed area. Bicycle parking stands and litter garbage cans were also installed.
In addition, the further course of the former city wall towards the west was shown in the surface with broken natural stone paving.

The municipal service would like to thank everyone involved for their excellent cooperation and understanding and hopes that the completed work will compensate you for any inconvenience.
