The most beautiful Jena of all time: Picture competition starts!

Being able to move through space and time - the Friedrich Schiller University Jena wants to make this age-old dream come true. At least digitally for Jena's city center. A 4D model of the city is being created at the FSU to make this possible. In order to bring the model of Jena from 1900-2000 to life, the Chair of Digital Humanities has set itself the ambitious goal of collecting 1,000 historical photos of the city center from this period. For this task, however, the researchers need the help of all Jena citizens and are therefore organizing a competition.

Under the title "The most beautiful Jena of all time", all citizens can upload historical photos and immortalize themselves in the virtual urban space.

The competition has two parts: The picture competition: Here you can upload historical photos and immortalize yourself in the virtual city space. Take a photo, upload it - a deep learning AI takes care of the rest and places the photo in the right place in the 4D model.

And the re-photography competition: the aim here is to re-photograph existing historical photos in the urban space - the app helps with this.

Those who contribute the most or submit particularly rare or interesting photos can win prizes. Anyone who finds submitting photos via the web app too tricky can simply contact the specially set up help desk at the Thuringian State Library or the Jena City Museum.

A renowned jury consisting of historians, researchers and public figures, chaired by the Lord Mayor, will decide on the awarding of the prizes.
