New athletics stadium

30.03.2022

The athletics stadium is taking more and more shape. On the area between the Institute for Sports Science of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) and the Sports Gymnasium, a new competition facility (type A) is being built with a covered grandstand for 500 spectators and a new functional building including a sports room, changing rooms and sanitary facilities for the Athletics Club Jena e.V., for the university sports of the FSU and for the State Sports Gymnasium. The building project will be carried out in two construction phases: The first includes the construction of the competition facility, the second the new construction of the functional building and the construction of the outdoor and traffic facilities.

After completion, the facility will offer professional competition facilities with eight running/sprinting lanes including a water ditch for 300 m hurdles, a 68 m x 105 m natural grass playing field, facilities for high jump and pole vault, hammer throw and discus throw, shot put and javelin throw, long jump and triple jump, and a warm-up area.

The next step will be the construction of the 8-mast floodlighting system, the installation of the synthetic sports surface and the laying of the natural grass in the interior of the circular track. The first construction phase can then be completed in June.

The second construction phase will begin in October 2022 and continue until spring 2024. In addition to the new building and the construction of the outdoor and traffic facilities, 41 parking spaces and 70 bicycle stands will also be created.
