New bike racks for the city center
The bicycle parking facilities in Jena's city center are being expanded. The building yard of Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is currently installing a total of 88 new bicycle racks, which will provide space for around 160 bicycles. The additional racks are being installed in particular at Holzmarkt, Johannisstraße, Löbdergraben and Teichgraben as well as opposite the Goethe Galerie. Existing parking spaces will be expanded, but new options will also be created, for example at Unterm Markt near the Müller drugstore and in Löbderstraße near the Sparkasse bank.
As part of the expansion, 24 existing racks will also be moved so that there are no different types of racks at one location.
Bicycle stands temporarily closed
The bicycle parking facilities will have to be closed in sections for the work. The majority of the work will be completed by the end of next week.
The expansion of further locations is planned as part of the implementation of the Jena 2035+ cycling plan.
75% funding from the state
The state is funding the purchase of the 88 racks with 12,600 euros. This corresponds to 75% of the acquisition costs. The remaining 4,200 euros will be borne by the city of Jena. KSJ is also providing the labor.
The installation of the hoops has been delayed by several months. The public tender for the procurement and installation of the bicycle racks was unfortunately unsuccessful twice. No bids were received. For this reason, the delivery of the racks was put out to tender individually and the installation of the bike racks was carried out by KSJ.
