New poster campaign in Jena promotes the use of reusable packaging
As part of the city-wide Mission Mehrweg campaign, a new poster campaign has been launched in Jena to draw attention to the benefits of reusable packaging. The posters can now be seen on central advertising pillars and highly frequented locations and are intended to motivate the people of Jena to use more reusable packaging when shopping and when out and about.
The campaign is part of the city of Jena's municipal commitment to greater environmental and climate protection. The aim is to further reduce the consumption of disposable packaging and to raise awareness of the use of reusable packaging as a simple and effective measure in everyday life. Since 2023, the city has been supporting the transition to a sustainable circular economy with its "Mission Reusable" and is focusing more on climate-friendly alternatives.
Solutions suitable for everyday use
Café Immergrün in Jena is a practical example of sustainability in action. For five years now, owner Matthias Wagner has consistently avoided single-use packaging and has successfully established his own deposit system. For a deposit of 2.50 euros, guests can take away food and drinks in robust reusable containers - there are currently around 20 containers in constant circulation. Many regular customers make regular use of the offer.
"I simply didn't want to offer disposable containers any more - it doesn't fit in with our philosophy or the responsible use of resources," explains Wagner.
His example shows that sustainable gastronomy can succeed with commitment and pragmatism, even without large systems.
"Reusable instead of disposable is an important step on the way to a resource-conserving city. The example of Café Immergrün shows very well how simple, everyday solutions can make a major contribution to environmental protection," says Dirk Lange, Head of Urban Development and Environment for the City of Jena. "This is exactly where Mission Reusable comes in - and we would like to encourage all Jena residents to actively support this idea."
Path to a climate-neutral and circular urban society
The campaign contributes to the implementation of the sustainability strategy and the climate action plan of the city of Jena. Both strategies pursue the goal of linking resource conservation, sustainable consumption, waste avoidance and climate protection more closely together and thus driving the change towards a climate-neutral and circular urban society.
