The new streetcars are coming

Good news from Erfurt: Susanna Karawanskij, Thuringia's State Secretary for Infrastructure, today sent out the funding decision for the renewal of the streetcar fleet. Thuringia is supporting the major project with €44.4 million.

The city administration has been working on the implementation in close cooperation with Jena's local transport for around 1 ½ years. Politically, the Jena City Council approved the investment, but made it dependent on the funding.

Mayor Christian Gerlitz "As a city, we are very grateful and happy to have final certainty that the streetcar will continue to be the backbone of Jena's local transport system in the future. The new streetcars will enable us to continue to cope with the passenger numbers that have been growing for years."
