New table tennis area in the Leutra district
Back in 2016, the Leutra district council approached the city council of Jena with a request to install a table tennis table in Leutra. However, this request, which was actually easy to realize, failed to find a suitable area.
A land swap was therefore arranged, creating the conditions for a suitable area to beallocated north of the Mühlgraben .
The construction site was cleared in February 2020 and the embankment to the Mühlgraben was then secured with a natural stone wall. In May, the municipal service 's building yard constructedthe table tennis area. In addition to the table, the newlybuilt 50 m² paved area also has two benches and a litter garbage can. A wooden picket fence encloses the entire area. Access is secured by a path barrier.
The total cost of the project amounted to €11,500.Jena's social and urban planningdepartmentand, on the part of Kommunalservice Jena, the water maintenance department and the strategy and planningdepartmentwere involved. In addition, another bench in the entrance area of the square is being financed by the Leutra district council.
The city administration is happy to make the wishes of Jena's district councils possible, especially when they enhance a district, as is the case here. This example also shows very clearly how long the path to implementation can take and how many people need to be involved for even a rather small wish to be realized.
