New Traffic Light Sequence in Golmsdorf
The traffic light system in Golmsdorf will be programmed differently in the future. This affects the three traffic lights at the town entrances from the direction of Porstendorf and Kunitz, as well as the one on Kunitzer Straße before the “An der Aue” intersection.
In the future, the traffic lights will be switched to a so-called “red-dark” mode. The lights will turn red only when necessary, so that traffic is directed based on current conditions. Depending on traffic volume, the system can selectively allow traffic from a specific direction to proceed. Otherwise, the lights will be off (dark).
Traffic signs remain in effect despite the traffic lights
The reason for this is that there is recurring uncertainty regarding the extent to which traffic signs apply along the route between the traffic lights. In particular, the “An der Aue” STOP sign was often disregarded because traffic was allowed to proceed when the light turned green. The existing traffic signs remain in effect despite the traffic light signals.
The traffic light system remains active between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The change was coordinated with the responsible traffic safety company and the police.
Background
The traffic light system in Golmsdorf is a temporary installation. There is increased traffic in the town because the B88 is completely closed due to the extensive renovation of Naumburger Straße, which includes the tram line extension toward Naumburg.
