New traffic routing relieves pressure on Camsdorfer Straße
From 18.08.2022, the traffic trial in Camsdorfer Straße and Camsdorfer Ufer will end with an adapted traffic routing. Camsdorfer Straße will remain passable in both directions. From Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, however, only cyclists are allowed to turn into it. Motor vehicles can use Camsdorfer Ufer instead. This will relieve Camsdorfer-Straße of through traffic heading south and meet the main wishes of local residents.
This new regulation will improve the overall distribution of traffic flows around the "Grüne Tanne" junction. In conjunction with a slight adjustment to the traffic lights, this should alleviate the traffic jams that were observed in Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in 2020.
The evaluation of all available data speaks in favor of retaining the traffic lights. It is used intensively by people walking and cycling, is located along school routes and helps to distribute pedestrian and cycle traffic on Camsdorfer Brücke. The decision to continue operating the traffic light system at the "Grüne Tanne" and to install it permanently as soon as possible is in line with the decision on the cycling referendum in 2021, in which the city council explicitly called on the city administration to focus more on the road safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
Background:
The Gera Administrative Court has called on the city of Jena to end the Camsdorfer Straße / Camsdorfer Ufer traffic trial in August 2022, as it was carried out for too long. The Gera Administrative Court has not determined the future traffic routing. This is a matter for the city of Jena.
