New: Work in Jena website presents working and living location

15.12.2020

Important information about working and living in Jena is now available on a new website from the Economic Development Agency (JenaWirtschaft). On Work in Jena, interested parties can find current job vacancies from local companies and institutions, a comprehensive overview of Jena's industries and work-related topics such as training and further education, job applications and job hunting. For people who do not yet know Jena, the website provides important information on the topics of arrival, family, housing, leisure and culture as well as social participation and helps to find the right local contact points. Since the fall, two new employees from JenaWirtschaft have also been available to provide personal advice and support to all professionals interested in Jena. The launch of the website is accompanied by a print and social media campaign.

Service for the recruitment of skilled workers

According to Wilfried Röpke, Managing Director of the Jena Economic Development Agency, it's the mix that makes the difference in Jena. In Jena, people can find both exciting career prospects and a very good quality of life in numerous companies in a wide range of sectors, from skilled trades to high-tech. The website is intended to reflect this great combination, and JenaWirtschaft was regularly asked for such a platform. The website is intended to support companies when skilled workers and applicants want to find out more about Jena.

Information for the whole family

According to JenaWirtschaft, people who come to Jena from abroad in particular need comprehensive information before deciding for or against a job offer in a new city and often also personal support after the move. Even if the initial contact to Jena is often made via a specific job offer, the city must then score points with an overall package, says Röpke. For example, the family must also feel comfortable in the city and find the right infrastructure.

Even if the world and Jena are still in the middle of the pandemic: According to Röpke, the issue of recruiting skilled workers will be crucial for the city in the coming years and decades: "Jena is still in competition with other cities for skilled workers, and the companies in the location still have a great need for qualified personnel. "The study we commissioned on skilled workers shows that, despite corona effects, Jena companies will need around 20,600 new employees by 2030. According to the JenaWirtschaft boss, local young people about to start their careers are just as important for the location as skilled workers from abroad. For all of them, work-in-jena is available as an information portal. There is already a widespread shortage of specialists, particularly in the healthcare and IT sectors. Jena can only continue to grow and be economically successful if local companies find enough new employees. The Jena job portal currently has over 1,000 local job advertisements.

Offer supports the Welcome Center Jena

The new Welcome Center Jena is also making a very important contribution to helping newcomers arrive in the city. Since the fall, two new colleagues at JenaWirtschaft have been providing interested professionals with information about working and living in Jena. Joanna Pawlaczek and Cornelia Meyerrose are also available to companies and institutions in Jena who would like advice on international recruitment and cultural diversity in the team. The Welcome Center team has already held several events in cooperation with Jena's universities and an organization for people with a migration background. Other exciting formats are currently being developed to bring professionals in Jena together. These include, for example, the online career get-together, a discussion platform on all topics relating to professional (further) development, which is due to be launched in January.
