City of Jena takes a stand on fan house bans

06.08.2025

In connection with the incidents surrounding the match between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and BSG Chemie Leipzig on November 30, 2024, the City of Jena has banned supporters of both fan groups involved from the stadium. This measure was taken on the basis of the domiciliary rights of the City of Jena as the owner of the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld. It serves to protect safety, order and municipal property.

In this context, the City of Jena authorities involved take note of the public criticism of the Blue-Yellow-White Aid. The city administration has a diametrically opposed view of the events in question on the match day in question. These have been processed by the police, legally assessed and are awaiting a decision by the judiciary. Until then, the bans imposed will remain in place and will not be revised.

The administration is obliged to act on the basis of applicable legal requirements. Decisions are therefore made transparently and can be reviewed individually by those affected. This applies in particular in the present case and opens up individual scope for action for all those affected by bans. The city of Jena guarantees this, even if individuals or interest groups want to suggest otherwise.

"Against this backdrop, it is unacceptable that attempts are now being made to put pressure on individuals in the administration, whether through direct personal messages or public appeals, and to leave the impression of coercion. The city makes its decisions objectively and on the basis of the facts available to it, not on the basis of public pressure or sentiment. It will not allow itself to be drawn into public stagings that give the impression of a tribunal. Event safety, protection of property and reliable administrative action are our top priorities and are not up for negotiation," Mayor Benjamin Koppe makes clear.
