Fire department operation in Jena Zwätzen with heavy smoke development

The Jena professional fire department and the Jena Zwätzen volunteer fire department were called to a vegetation fire at 20:12. A 10x10 meter wide and high straw bale tower is currently burning in a field in Zwätzen. The field is located on the right-hand side of the road out of Jena. The source of the fire is under control. To facilitate the extinguishing work, the straw bale tower had to be removed and the extinguishing field widened. For this reason, there is currently a lot of smoke in the area of Brückenstraße, Wiesenstraße, the residential area of Himmelreich and Kunitz. Residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed. A warning has been issued via the NINA warning app. As soon as the smoke subsides, this warning will be deactivated again.

As a precautionary measure, Deutsche Bahn has been informed about the operation, as the tracks are in the immediate vicinity. However, the line does not have to be closed.

There is no information yet on the cause of the fire.
