Register now for City Cycling 2025

CITY CYCLING 2025 starts next week - and Jena is taking part for the 14th time. From 29.08.2025 to 18.09.2025, everyone who lives, works or attends a (high) school in Jena is once again called upon to leave their car behind, switch to their bike as often as possible and collect kilometers. Whether for business or pleasure, the main thing is to cycle CO2-free for a city worth living in, the promotion of cycling and climate protection.

CITY CYCLING - What is it about?

CITY CYCLING is an international competition in which the aim is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way for 21 days for your own municipality. It doesn't matter whether you already cycle every day or only rarely get on your bike. Every kilometer counts, especially if it would otherwise have been covered by car. The idea behind it: To get people excited about the benefits of cycling by giving it a try themselves for three weeks.

The Jena CITY CYCLING event

The city of Jena has been organizing CITY CYCLING since 2012 and has been pleased with the increasing number of cyclists ever since. Anyone who lives, works, belongs to a club or attends a (high) school in the city can take part.

Important information and registration 2025

Registration for CITY CYCLING is free and can be done online at stadtradeln.de/jena. After registering, you can join an existing team or set up your own team. In the period from 29.08. to 18.09.2025, the kilometers covered can either be entered online or tracked via the CITY CYCLING app. All kilometers must be recorded in the online kilometer book by 25.09.2025.

Awards

This year, the most active cycling teams (km/cyclists) and the largest teams as well as the teams with the most kilometers cycled will again receive awards (1st to 3rd place).

Prizes for Jena schools

This year, prizes will also be awarded to the most cycling-active school teams with the most kilometers per cyclist. It is important that at least 25 percent of the pupils in the school team cycle. However, parents and teachers also count.

SCHOOL CYCLING in Thuringia

The Thuringian SCHULRADELN is also being organized again. In the Thuringia-wide school ranking, there are prizes for the school classes with the most kilometers cycled, the most kilometers per capita and the most active participants (as a percentage). It is important that the "School cycling competition" box is ticked when registering.

STADTRADELN kick-off tour on the Thuringian chain of towns to Gernewitz

This year's kick-off tour of CITY CYCLING takes place on August 30, 2025 and leads along the Thuringian chain of towns to Gernewitz. The tour starts in Jena at 13:00 behind the Paradies train station. Then it's time to discover the region by bike over 14 kilometers, enjoy regional products in Gernewitz in a convivial atmosphere and learn more about the farm store.

The farm store is open until 4 p.m. for refreshments after the cycle tour and also offers coffee and cake. There will also be a short guided tour of "Oils straight from the mill" and an exchange at the educational apiary.
