Renovation of the ceiling on Stadtrodaer Straße
Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) is planning to renovate a section of Stadtrodaer Straße together with Jena's local transport authority. The approximately 700-metre-long construction site is located between the traffic monitoring system near the Seidel parking lot and north of the "Am Stadion" junction. It includes both carriageways and the road "Jenertal" up to Seidelstraße (see attached site plan).
The construction project is a resurfacing project. The top asphalt layer, the so-called wearing course, will be renewed to a thickness of 4 cm. This layer usually has a service life of up to 15 years. The section in question was last renewed in 2005 and after 20 years, it is showing clear signs of damage: cracks, leaching and grain breakouts - in some cases right down to the binder course below.
In order to preserve the substance of the road in the long term, the worn surface course and, in some areas, the damaged binder course will therefore be renewed. This prevents the deeper road layers from being affected. Resurfacing is an important part of road maintenance management, with which the city of Jena ensures road safety and the service life of the road network.
As Jena's most important arterial road, Stadtrodaer Straße is to be repaired step by step - a first section was already renewed last year, with more to follow in the coming years.
As part of the roadway renovation, the "Jenertal" bus stop on the outskirts of the city will also be rebuilt. The kerbs will be raised so that the adjacent streetcar stop can be made barrier-free in future. Due to the changed height conditions, the road drainage system will have to be adapted. In addition, the pedestrian crossing is already being made barrier-free in accordance with the current specifications in view of the future barrier-free expansion of the stop.
The construction work will take place from August 25 to October 2, 2025 (week 35-40).
The work will be carried out by the company Streicher from Jena.
A full closure of the affected directional lane is necessary for the work. Meanwhile, traffic will be guided on one lane in both directions. For this purpose, the central reservation north of the "Am Stadion" junction must be paved; this work is scheduled for the end of the 34th calendar week.
At least two construction phases are planned for the work. The Jenertal to Seidelstraße section will be closed at the same time as both carriageways. A detour will be in place via Wöllnitzer Straße. During the closure of the outbound lane, the "Jenertal" bus stop will also be closed.
The Seidel parking lot will remain accessible during the construction period. During this phase, access will be via a temporary asphalt surface in the adjacent green area. This will require the felling of three damaged trees. The felling will be carried out in consultation with the environmental protection department; replacement planting will be carried out as compensation.
The streetcar stops will remain in operation during the entire construction period.
Pedestrians can usually cross the Jenertal intersection via a temporary traffic light system. The crossing will only be closed for a few days for safety reasons during special work stages, such as milling the road surface or laying the new asphalt layer. During this time, a detour will be set up via the crossing points at the "Friedrich-Engels-Straße" and Oberaue "Am Stadion" junctions.
Kommunalservice Jena and Jenaer Nahverkehr ask all road users for their understanding for the restrictions associated with the work and recommend that they follow the additional instructions on site.
