Nationwide warning day on September 11, 2025
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the nationwide warning day coordinated by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will once again take place. The city of Jena is participating extensively in this day of action to test the warning equipment. The aim is to test the technical processes, identify possible weak points and inform the population about the available warning channels.
From 11:00 a.m., various warning devices will be triggered simultaneously in Jena - including sirens, loudspeaker announcements, warning apps, cell broadcast and digital information systems in the city and on local public transport. The all-clear is given at 11:45 am.
"Modern warning systems are a central component of our municipal emergency response. The warning day shows how important it is that all systems interact in an emergency and that the people of Jena can be reached quickly and reliably in an emergency. It is therefore not only a test run of the various warning systems, but also an opportunity to familiarize the population with the warning signals," explains Mayor and Head of Security Benjamin Koppe.
What exactly is happening in Jena?
In Jena, the warning day is coordinated by the fire department. At 11:00 a.m. sharp, 24 digital sirens are triggered in the city area and emit an ascending and descending wailing tone as a warning signal. This is immediately followed by a voice announcement with the message: "Attention! Attention! This is the city administration of Jena. This is a test alarm."
In those parts of the city that are not equipped with sirens - including Wenigenjena, Jena-Ost and Lobeda-Ost - patrol cars with loudspeaker announcements warn the population. At the same time, corresponding notices also appear on digital displays on public transport, on the city's website www.jena.de and on the city's social media channels.
At 11:45 a.m., all sirens sound a one-minute continuous all-clear signal. The nationwide cell broadcast system will also be tested: This involves sending a warning message directly to all cell phones with technical reception capability - completely without an app or internet connection. You can find out which devices support this function on the BBK website.

Why a warning day?
The warning day is part of a nationwide test run coordinated by the BBK. In addition to the technical system test, the aim is to raise public awareness of warnings and their importance in the event of a crisis. Warnings can be crucial in the event of major fires, floods, power outages or hazardous substance spills, for example.
