Commemoration of the victims of National Socialist tyranny
To commemorate the victims of National Socialist tyranny, an event will be held in Jena on Tuesday, 27.01.2026, to which all interested parties are cordially invited. At the memorial on Heinrichsberg (opposite the junction of Philosophenweg and Straße des 17. Juni), Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche will give a speech and lay a sick at 1 pm.
Background information
Since 1996, January 27 has been the day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism in Germany. It refers to the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp by the Red Army on January 27, 1945. Since 2005, it has also been the United Nations International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. This day commemorates the millions of people who were persecuted and murdered during the Nazi regime, including Jews, Sinti and Roma, homosexuals and people with disabilities.
