Fundraising campaign for Brovary: great solidarity from Jena -
The willingness to help in Jena for the Ukrainian twin city of Brovary continues to be great: since the start of the city's appeal for donations, 18,826 euros have already been received through 120 individual donations by February 16, 2026. The city would like to thank all citizens and companies who have made this quick and tangible help possible.
"The great willingness to donate shows how strong the solidarity in our city is. I would like to thank all the people in Jena whose support is helping us to provide concrete help to our partners in Brovary. This solidarity is an important sign - and it makes a real difference on the ground," explains Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche.
At the same time, the city is making it clear that the local need remains high. The central aim of the fundraising campaign is to purchase additional, powerful generators to ensure the energy supply to public service facilities even in the event of infrastructure failures. Additional donations are therefore crucial in order to be able to purchase and provide further equipment in a timely manner.
Jena fire department generator as a supplementary component
After technical coordination between the fire departments of both cities, the idea of providing a generator from the Jena fire department's inventory was also born. The tried and tested device (GDR model) has an internal offset value of 2,500 euros, which is to be redeemed via the donations in order to then officially hand over the generator to the partners in Brovary.
The fire department's generator is a supplementary measure. The focus of the donation campaign remains clearly on the targeted purchase of new generators that meet the current needs on site.
In addition, we are constantly working with our local partners to determine how the funds can be used most efficiently - either by purchasing technology in Germany and then transporting it or by directly financing a purchase in Ukraine. Both methods enable aid to be provided quickly and in line with requirements.
Interlocking aid campaigns
Parallel to the donation campaign, other support measures are running between Jena and Brovary, including the provision of aid packages with medical, technical and mobile equipment. Together, these actions show how diverse the help provided by the city's community and partner organizations is: while aid packages provide concrete material goods, the appeal for donations enables flexible and rapid responses to current needs - especially in terms of energy supply.
Appeal for further donations
The city is therefore continuing its urgent appeal for support: Every additional donation will help to purchase more new generators and secure supplies for the people of Brovary in the long term.
The continuing solidarity shows that the town twinning is sustainable even in difficult times and can provide concrete help - quickly, reliably and directly where it is needed.
