City participates in the Thuringia 2026 car fast

The Autofasten Thuringia campaign has been promoting alternatives to driving since 2011 and sends a strong signal for climate protection. The city of Jena is also taking part in 2026 and supporting the initiative, which motivates people to change their car during Lent. The campaign period runs from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, February 18, 2026 to April 4, 2026.

The aim of the campaign is to encourage drivers to try out public transport, cycling, car sharing or walking in their everyday lives. In 2025, Autofasten Thuringia sent a strong signal for better mobility outside the cities: the petition "More buses and trains in rural areas!" was heard by the Petitions Committee of the Thuringian State Parliament.

Under the motto "ÖPNVenture", Autofasten Thüringen 2026 combines carefully planned bus and train routes with puzzle challenges. This makes the changeover fun - and Thuringia can be rediscovered by public transport.
