Arbitrators wanted for Jena

Anyone who wants to get involved in society and help resolve conflicts out of court can apply to be an honorary arbitrator. Applicants for this honorary position should be 25 years of age or older, not older than 70, not have a criminal record and live in Jena.

The task of the arbitrators is to break up deadlocked conflict situations and hardened fronts through negotiation skills in order to avoid legal disputes. Arbitrators settle minor differences of opinion and disputes of a civil and criminal nature and end them by concluding a settlement to be recorded accordingly.

Activities in a wide range of areas

Arbitrators are active in a wide variety of areas, for example in disputes between neighbors, compensation for pain and suffering and other claims for damages, but also in cases of minor bodily injury, trespassing, insults or damage to property. No special prior knowledge is required. What is required is a sound knowledge of human nature, life experience, patience, good communication skills, a willingness to mediate neutrally and with discretion, and a willingness to take part in training and further training events.

Interested parties are requested to send a written application by e-mail to fd-recht@jena.de or by post to Jena City Council, Legal Department, Am Anger 15, 07743 Jena by 31.03.2026 at the latest. A short CV, a concise letter of motivation and an MfS declaration for arbitrators are required. This is a self-declaration that applicants for the honorary office of arbitrator must submit. It is used to check for possible activity for the former Ministry for State Security (Stasi) of the GDR.
