The waste collection calendar stays the same—just in digital form

For over 30 years, the waste collection calendar has guided the residents of Jena through the year. What began as a simple leaflet listing collection dates later evolved into the popular “Waste Guide” and is now officially called the “Guide with Waste Collection Calendar.” For many years, the printed guide was distributed to over 65,000 households and served as a familiar tool in everyday life for many people.

Starting in 2027, the waste collection calendar will evolve further: the “Guide with Waste Collection Calendar” will no longer be available in its current printed form. The reason: more and more residents are using digital services. For this reason, Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) would like to focus its efforts more strongly on modern, digital services in the future and continue to develop them. By eliminating printing, production, and distribution, the city will save paper, energy, transportation costs, and labor. These resources will be used for other important KSJ tasks in the future.

Digital Waste Collection Calendar

The digital waste collection calendar is already available. For about three years now, residents have been able to view their individual collection dates online and, if desired, set up reminders. In addition, the digital waste collection calendar can be accessed via the MeinJena app. This means that personal collection dates are available directly on a smartphone at any time.

Calendar Stickers

For anyone who would like to continue using the familiar calendar stickers, there is still an option: These stickers can be picked up at the Wertstoffhof Nord recycling center, located at Löbstedter Straße 56, near the weighing station. The waste collection calendar has been a part of Jena for more than three decades. With the transition to digital services, we’re continuing this tradition—in a more sustainable, up-to-date way that’s better suited to the possibilities of our time.
