Major Renovation of Naumburger Street: Track construction has begun in Himmelreich

Construction work on the comprehensive renovation of Naumburger Straße is making visible progress. During the first construction phase currently underway—between the northern intersection with Carl-Orff-Straße and the outskirts of Jena—work over the summer focused in particular on the substructure for
the tram line, including the pouring of concrete track slabs. The so-called dead-end track, which will mark the end of the future new tram line in Himmelreich, is also nearly complete.

Meanwhile, the installation of the first tracks has already begun. A total of approximately 700 meters of track and three switches will be laid during the first construction phase. At the same time, work continues on the road drainage system, including the installation of a so-called light-liquid separator
. In addition, work is beginning on the construction of the service building at the future Himmelreich tram terminal.

The goal is to complete the current construction phase by the end of November. After that, work will continue in the area between the northern and southern junctions of Carl-Orff-Straße.

The comprehensive renovation of Naumburger Straße is a complex joint project involving the City of Jena, Kommunalservice Jena, Jenaer Nahverkehr, Stadtwerke Jena, and JenaWasser. In addition to extending the tram line to Himmelreich,
the roadway, sidewalks, and bike paths are being renewed. Furthermore, key utility and waste disposal lines are being replaced. The goal of the project is to secure the infrastructure for the long term and to connect the residential areas of Himmelreich and Am Oelste to the
tram network. Work on Naumburger Straße will be carried out in several construction phases between the entrance to Jena and the Flurweg junction through mid-2029.

Sichtbar voran kommen die Bauarbeiten zum grundhaften Ausbau der Naumburger Straße. An der künftigen Straßenbahntrasse ins Himmelreich werden derzeit die ersten Gleise verlegt.
