Information boards on the town's history

24.06.2019

Interest in the archaeological excavations at Inselplatz is very high. In order to provide information about the buildings that once stood there, the city of Jena has put up boards with pictures and short texts on the site fence. The history of the houses demolished in the late 1980s is briefly explained here.

The site was characterized by a tributary of the Saale - the Lache - which flowed there until 1938. The location between two bodies of water gave rise to the name Insel and later Inselplatz.

In the coming years, the new campus of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and a parking garage will be built here.
