Focus on the development of Jena's fire departments

01.07.2019

The quality and speed of emergency response in the growing city of Jena is one of the main concerns of our municipality. To this end, the basis for equipping the Jena fire department is being updated. The "New version of the fire protection requirements and development plan for the Jena fire department" is on the agenda for the upcoming city council meeting on Wednesday. This development plan has already been extensively discussed in the specialist committees.

Ten minutes after the alarm is raised, ten firefighters should be at the scene of the incident. This is the case in Jena 86 percent of the time. Recommendations for action have been drawn up in order to continue to guarantee this figure. They are intended to cover a growing need for emergency response. This is due to more inhabitants, more industry and more complex scientific buildings. More high-rise buildings also place new demands on the technology and firefighters.

Special attention is being paid to the volunteer fire departments. Around 300 people currently work there on a voluntary basis. This number should be maintained and, at best, increased. Recommendations are also made for this.

Department head Benjamin Koppe also praises the move by the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt to join the East Thuringia control center network. This provides planning security and significant financial synergies.
