Second Jena Butterfly Night well attended

02.09.2019

The second Jena Butterfly Night was once again well attended. The short but violent summer thunderstorm on Friday evening did not scare away the night owls.

After around 45 interested citizens had found their way to the lecture hall at the planetarium from 8 p.m. for the lecture by Dr. Frank Hünefeld from the nature conservation authority on the subject of butterflies and insect protection in the city, the winged "main characters" also joined in from 9 p.m. onwards. Numerous night butterflies could be admired at 3 light traps in the botanical garden - alongside many grasshoppers, flies, caddisflies, bugs, beetles and a few hornets, which are also out and about in the dark hours.

By the end of the light festival, around 20 different butterfly species had flown to the light sources. The setting for the event this time was the special exhibition "Garden finds City", whose organizers deserve just as many thanks as the visitors.
