The history of the VHS Jena in the Rathausdiele

05.09.2019

Some things have changed in 100 years of Jena Adult Education Center. Other courses were already available in a similar form one hundred years ago. Take a look around the Rathausdiele until October 15. Which well-known personalities signed the founding appeal of the Volkshochschule Thüringen and thus also the Volkshochschule Jena? Was it possible to attend health courses around 1930? What happened to the VHS after the end of the Second World War? Since when has it been possible to catch up on school-leaving qualifications at our institution? Did you know that in the 1980s you could train to become a record entertainer and cityscape educator? What role did the town twinning agreement concluded with Erlangen in 1987 play for our institution, especially during the period of reunification? This exhibition tells you about this and many other aspects of our history.

And please take up our request at the end of the exhibition: How do you imagine the adult education center of the future? Come and talk to us about this, perhaps on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., also in the town hall, in the plenary hall.

There we will be discussing learning spaces of the future with Prof. Richard Stang, Stuttgart Media University. The event will be moderated by Jonas Zipf, Director of JenaKultur. Prof. Erich Schäfer, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences, Eberhard Hertzsch, Head of the Department for Family, Education & Social Affairs and Dr. Beate Benndorf-Helbig, Project Officer at the Thuringian Adult Education Association, will also be on the panel.
