12th Jena Art Market

Since 2003

In 2003, the first event took place in the makeshift Volksbad, when the art market was a guest of "Theater in Bewegung", a gigantic seating crossbeam covered the swimming pool and the artists got up close and personal with the visitors in a very confined space. The art market has long since become a tradition and the venue is no longer provisional.

Art market 2019

The art market is taking place for the 12th time this year. The traditional location is the Volksbad Jena. 26 regional artists and craftspeople will be presenting paintings, graphics, sculptures, wood art, plastic art, ceramics, porcelain design, photography, light objects, scrap collages and textile design. The exhibited objects are also available for purchase.

Among the artists are 5 new participants, 2 of whom come from the Russian Republic of Buryatia.

In focus: Eva Schimek and Grit Leinen

The artists Eva Schimek and Grit Leinen will be highlighted in a special way this time. Eva Schimek combines painting, graphics, photography, film and text on the theme of "Views and Insights". Grit Leinen experiments with words and language in the project "Sprachakrobatik" ("Linguistic Acrobatics") on relationships - prosperity - household in 108 variations. In a special documentation, Frank Müller shows photos on the subject of Bauhaus and modernism in Thuringia.

Supporting program

The program guest is the Dutch action artist and stilt walker Rene Klaassen, who surprises the guests with various walk acts and pantomime. Kunstwerk Jena e. V. invites visitors to join in with sound design and acrylic painting on canvas in the drawing room of the Volksbad. The Lil Bernstein Band from Erfurt will be entertaining visitors with jazz, swing, samba, rock and pop on vocals, saxophone and piano.

The art market will be moderated by Doris Weilandt.

Admission prices

Admission is 4 euros / reduced for children up to 14 years 2 euros. A family ticket for 2 adults and a maximum of 2 children is available for 8 euros.
