Vandalism in Lobeda-West again
Cases of vandalism have once again occurred on the outdoor area of the Kubus. Employees of Kommunalservices Jena (KSJ) discovered broken glass in the sand of the beach volleyball court. As a result, the facility had to be closed and the sand replaced. The KSJ estimates the cost of this at 11,000 euros. This incident is particularly annoying as the beach volleyball court was only given new sand and nets in July.
This is not the first incident of vandalism in Lobeda-West. In November, for example, unknown persons left the open play areas on the Kubus site heavily littered. There have also been several incidents at the sports complex in Lobeda-West this year. Here, youths physically harassed a janitor, emptied a fire extinguisher at the entrance to the Saaletal School and set off a firework.
The rising costs due to incidents of vandalism present us as a city with major challenges. They also endanger the safety of our citizens. That is why we are now working together with the police, the public order office, district mayor Volker Blumentritt, Streetwork and the municipal enterprises KSJ and Kommunale Immobilien Jena to develop measures to prevent further incidents,
says Head of Sports and Security Benjamin Koppe.
The volleyball court will be open again from the middle of this week. The city administration very much hopes that the court will remain in this condition for a long time.
