Wreath-laying ceremony in Zwickau

17.02.2020

Resist the beginnings of right-wing ideologies!

With this appeal, Jena's Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and district mayor Volker Blumentritt laid a wreath for the victims of the NSU together with Mayor Pia Findeiß.

At the memorial site in Zwickau, the three sent a unanimous signal against ideologies of exclusion. Jena and Zwickau share a duty of remembrance due to the most well-known perpetrators of the NSU complex.

Jena has long pushed responsibility for the NSU to one side. With the Year of Remembrance 2021, we want to work together with civil society to come to terms with the incomprehensible acts of the trio and their helpers,

said Thomas Nitzsche.

Volker Blumentritt reported from his own biography:

'In September 2000, Ralf Wohlleben and another crony stood in front of the district center in Neu-Lobeda and wanted to found a youth organization of the NPD. I was able to send them away and this party never managed to gain a foothold here.

Pia Findeiß recalled Volker Blumentritt's initiative for a Jena delegation to visit Zwickau. She was very grateful that the city of Jena was commemorating the victims here. At the same time, she accepted an invitation for a return visit to Jena - if possible to name Enver-Şimşek Square in May 2020.
