Two cases of corona detected in Jena

13.03.2020

Two people in Jena have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today. This is the first time that this disease has occurred in residents of the city. They are a man and a woman.

The male person was in a risk area and then went into self-isolation. The family members are also in quarantine. Another contact person, with whom the infected person was staying in the risk area, had already contacted the health department independently of this due to the municipal general order and was then placed in domestic quarantine.

The female person is in home quarantine. 7 contact persons were identified, 4 of whom come from Jena. These have also been placed in home quarantine by order.

The two cases are not connected.

"The measures adopted in recent days were good and correct," says Head of Staff and Head of Security Benjamin Koppe. "We acted quickly. Thanks to everyone who supported our consistent orders."

"Since the first cases in Thuringia, including in the neighboring district, we had to assume that cases of infection could also be expected in Jena in the near future. We are now investigating the cases at full speed in order to slow down the further spread of the coronavirus in Jena as much as possible," added Mayor Thomas Nitzsche.

The staff for extraordinary events is also in constant communication at the weekend.
