6 new corona cases in Jena

On Saturday, 14.03.2020, six citizens of Jena tested positive for coronavirus. Five people were on a vacation trip to Tyrol. They went directly to the University Hospital. There were no other contact persons in Jena.

The sixth person to test positive is a woman who returned to Jena from Switzerland. She also had no other contacts and is now in quarantine.

Every measure, even if it seems drastic at first, will help to counteract the rapid spread of the virus. In this context, saving time means saving lives. At the same time, the university hospital must do everything in its power to expand its capacity for intensive care beds and ventilators.

says Head of Staff and Head of Safety Benjamin Koppe.

The doctors' reports from Italy and the virologists' scientific assessment of the course of the pandemic provide information on what needs to be done now. Those who instead act hesitantly and timidly are not living up to their great responsibility in this situation.

emphasizes Koppe emphatically.

Mayor Christian Gerlitz adds:

We are well aware of the implications of this decision. It is therefore all the more important for me to emphasize that all the necessary measures recommended by our municipal health authority are unanimously supported by the entire staff management with the Lord Mayor and all department heads.

Returnees from risk areas in domestic quarantine

Finally, the staff would like to draw attention to compliance with the general decree for returnees from risk areas. They must go into home quarantine immediately. They must also report to the health department.
