JUPITER Jena goes on an online trainee safari

12.03.2021

With the first trainee safari, JUPITER Jena is shedding light on Jena's training jungle and taking young people on a digital discovery tour. On March 23 and 24 as well as April 13 and 14, the initiative of the Jena Economic Development Corporation (JenaWirtschaft) invites students, parents and teachers to get to know training companies from Jena and the region. Whether from the comfort of their couch or at their desk - the online format offers all interested parties the opportunity to talk to trainees in an uncomplicated way and explore future prospects in the City of Light. On the first two tours in March, the safari will make stops at companies from the digital economy and the skilled trades sector. Major digital players, such as dotsource GmbH and DAKO GmbH, have already confirmed their participation, but smaller companies, such as Hönnger Fleisch- und Wurstwaren, are also taking part. In round two in April, companies from the optics-photonics and healthcare sectors will be presenting themselves.

With this innovative format, JUPITER Jena aims to support young people and their parents in the orientation process and the transition from school to work. "Young people are our future!" emphasizes Wilfried Röpke, Managing Director of JenaWirtschaft. Due to demographic change with rising retirement rates in the coming years, young talent is becoming increasingly important for Jena's companies. "Many professions offer great prospects," says Röpke. "Vocational training is not just a secure path to a secure job. In addition to guaranteed employment, many companies in the area also offer exciting opportunities for further development."

Jena's first trainee safari now brings training companies and potential trainees closer together. What's special about the format? "The trainees speak for us," says Daniela Drilltzsch, Project Manager at JUPITER Jena, emphasizing the interactive approach. The individual company presentations are designed by trainees in their second and third year of training. "We expect very different ideas," says Drilltzsch, looking forward to an "entertaining journey". "From a live tour of the company, to personal reports on everyday working life, to the presentation of a workpiece, everything is included." At the end of each tour, there is also an extensive Q&A session where the young people can ask all their questions. "The direct exchange gives the students the best insight into the various tasks, the working environment and, of course, potential future colleagues," summarizes Daniela Drilltzsch.

The events take place online via the Zoom video tool and are broadcast live on YouTube. The current tour schedule with all the training occupations presented and participating companies can be found on the event website www.azubi-safari-jena.de. You can also register for the event via this page.
