Sunday memorial services and mourning flags
Next Sunday, the victims of the coronavirus pandemic will be commemorated nationwide. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had called for this. The city of Jena has suffered 65 deaths in connection with a Covid-19 infection, and the number in Germany is now over 79,000.
Mayor Thomas Nitzsche has ordered mourning flags to be flown on municipal buildings on this day.
Church services in Jena will continue to commemorate the victims of the pandemic. The Christian churches in Jena will commemorate the victims of the pandemic in their services and throughout the day in open churches and parish halls to mark the nationwide Corona Memorial Day.
A memorial service will be held in the city church at 10 a.m., in which Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche will take part with a commemorative speech. Superintendent Sebastian Neuß will preach.
Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the number of participants is very limited. Interested visitors are asked to register in advance at www.stadtkirche-jena.de, as participation is not possible without registration.
Alternatively, the church service will be streamed at 10 a.m. on the church district's website www.kirchenkreis-jena.de. At 12 noon there will be a radio broadcast on Radio OKJ 103.4 MHz and at 3 pm the memorial service will be shown on Jena TV.
Mourners and those suffering during the pandemic are invited to write down their intentions in a prayer book in the side chapel of the town church during the current week. Their prayers and thoughts will be included in the service on Sunday in the town church.
