Next steps in Jena
Today, the Federal Chancellor and the Minister Presidents discussed how to proceed in Germany and the individual federal states from next week. Many suggestions have already been made, but the federal states do not agree on everything.
The city of Jena will now wait and see what the state of Thuringia decides. Prime Minister Ramelow had announced in the evening that he would allow earlier relaxation and opening of some points. However, only once binding regulations have been issued for Thuringia will it be decided which further measures may still need to be enacted in Jena.
However, mandatory face coverings will remain an important measure in the fight against the spread of the virus. Hygiene rules, social distancing and the wearing of face masks will be the prerequisites for opening or easing restrictions in Jena.
Temporary exemption of holders of expiring Schengen visas from the requirement of a residence permit
The Federal Ministry of the Interior has regulated that foreigners who entered the federal territory after 17.03.2020 and before 10.04.2020 with a valid Schengen visa and who are in the federal territory on 10.04.2020 are exempt from the requirement of a residence permit from the date of expiry of their Schengen visa until 30.06.2020.
Issuance of residence permits (outside of Schengen visas)
From 20.04.2020, the Jena Immigration Office will issue residence permits via special appointments at the Löbdergraben 12 window due to the Corona crisis situation. Collection can only take place by appointment. Personal pick-up appointments will be sent by e-mail. A face mask must be worn during collection. Please also keep a safe distance from other people in front of the building.
