Landfeste redesign from 20.04. / full closure from 04.05.2020

16.04.2020

Extensive refurbishment

The Landfeste park area will be extensively renovated and redesigned from 20.04.2020. With this measure, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the city of Jena is closing the last remaining major gap from the Saale framework plan in the area of Jena's city center.

The redesign of the "Paradies" and thus the creative and functional upgrading of the Saale floodplain in the area close to the city began back in 2009 in order to give the people of Jena "their river" back. The renovation work on the land fortress should be completed by the end of 2020.

Different areas will be created

  • In future, the park area will have various areas designed to invite people to linger and offer play opportunities for children. The avenue of lime trees will be extended and the existing footpath and cycle path will be asphalted to create a Saale cycle path.
  • The "Lacheterassen" will be created in the southern part of the park. The facility will consist of three successive, staggered levels that sink into the Saale embankment. The differences in height between the terraces will be overcome with steps and ramps and seating steps towards the embankment. At one point, the seating steps are arranged at a slight angle to each other, creating a widening at the lowest terrace, inviting people to linger in a communicative area and offering views of and across the Saale.
  • Near the Camsdorf Bridge, the area of the former "bastion" will be redesigned in such a way that the historical inscription stones of the old Camsdorf Bridge, integrated into a wall slab made of in-situ concrete, will be restaged. To this end, the stones will be restored in accordance with monument protection regulations and an information board will provide background information. In addition to the parapet-high wall, the new recreation area will be equipped with a curved seating element (retaining wall) and a staircase with four gradients.
  • The entrance area on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße will be developed into green entrance areas. Strips of slabs in different lengths are laid at a distance so that grass can grow in the gaps. This forms a flowing transition to the meadow area. Seating elements will be placed at the edges. Attractive tree species emphasize the entrance areas and are also intended to delight passers-by.

Complete closure of the area until the end of October 2020

In order to complete the redesign by the end of October, a complete closure and detour for cyclists and pedestrians will be necessary.

While pedestrians will only have to take a relatively short detour via Am Eisenbahndamm, cycle traffic will be diverted more widely via Camsdorfer Ufer from Wenigenjenaer Ufer and from the junction with Stadtrodaer Straße at the employment office.
